Behold Our God – Genesis 7

Behold Our God – Genesis 7

Who is our God? What is He like?

He is the giver and taker of life.

In Genesis chapter seven we enter into the tragic consequence of man’s wickedness in the earth.  Judgment has finally come, and there is no space left for repentance. You might wonder how such a statement can be made, but I would submit to you that the ark was only made for Noah and his family.  Consider:

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. (Hebrews 11:7)

The building of the ark sealed the deal.  The consequence of the sin of the world was fixed.  Death was sure, and there was now no room for repentance.  Some might think that God is unjust because of this revelation, but I would remind you that justice finds its definition in the eternal and infinite nature of God, not in your finite presuppositions.  You might ask… “How could God reach a place that He would not grant repentance to man?” and I would remind you that He is the Creator and giver of life. As such, He also has every right take it when He deems appropriate.  In the beginning of this chapter we see this truth revealed very clearly. Consider verse four:

For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.

So, as we meditate on the nature and character of God today, let us never forget that He is the giver and taker of life.  The final decision ultimately belongs to Him.

Behold our God!
